What a wonderful day to Walk My Way and say a warm goodbye to an old friend!

The Adelaide Walk My Way event on Saturday 3 May was a fitting farewell for the Australian Lutheran College's (ALC) North Adelaide campus and raised vital funds for the Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS).

Blessed with glorious sunny autumn weather, over 400 people walked the 3 or 10-kilometre course, which took in iconic Adelaide landmarks such as Adelaide Oval, the River Torrens, St Peter's Cathedral, Adelaide Zoo and the Festival Centre.

Adelaide Walk My Way was a key fundraiser for ALWS, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary with the goal to support 75,000 children.

It was also the last official event held at ALC's historic North Adelaide campus, a significant site for the Lutheran Church since 1923, with the College moving to new premises in the city in July.

The walk started and finished at ALC, which also hosted a Community Hub, featuring live music, food trucks, campus tours, a garage sale, and an LLL Drink Stand.

"The Adelaide Walk My Way was a fantastic event that we were proud to support," said LLL Chief Relationship Officer Scott Ross, who took on the 10km course.

"It was inspiring to see so many people turn out for our Platinum Partners, who work tirelessly to provide food, shelter and safety for children in some of the world's poorest regions.

"Vital funds were raised, with every additional donation made this week being matched dollar-for-dollar by the LLL $75k Matching Appeal.

"Congratulations to ALWS and ALC for putting on such a wonderful event and to everyone who walked or donated to this important cause.

"It was great to step out with you."

With donations still coming in the Monday after the event, nearly $65,000 was raised, which provides support to over 2,500 children in need in places like Somalia, South Sudan, Kenya, Burundi, Bangladesh, Nepal and Ukraine.

"Adelaide really turned on the weather and the vibe in the Hub was humming … it had such a community feel," ALWS Community Engagement team member Celia Fielke said.

"It was so good to see the Church community come together as a whole to celebrate a wonderful cause.

"ALC and ALWS have been doing a lot of work in partnership, and it all came together in a great day.

"To see so many people that you know, there were lots of hugs and reminiscing, it was really special.

"Thanks to our Platinum Partners LLL for their support and team members who volunteered their time on the day."
