Adelaide's historic Bethlehem Lutheran Church provided a beautiful backdrop for the installation service for Karen Pienaar as LLL Australia's new CEO.

LCANZ Bishop Paul Smith delivered the Rite of Installation during a moving service attended by LLL Board Directors and staff on Sunday, 14 December.

Bethlehem was a fitting venue for the ceremony as Karen is a member of the congregation at the Flinders Street landmark, which was also where founder Ben Koch and associates formed LLL in 1921.

A special day

"Today was really special, to have my husband, closest family members and friends, LLL colleagues and my fellow congregation members share in my installation service meant a lot to me," Karen said.

"It was particularly meaningful to me that the installation service took take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Flinders Street, the church where I worship, and a place where I have a deep connection through service to the congregation over a number of years.

"I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to LCANZ Bishop Paul Smith, and Pastors Fraser Pearce and Matthew Bishop for conducting the service, and LCANZ Assistant Bishop Stephen Schultz, LCANZ Executive Officer of the Church Brett Hausler, and LLL Board Director Nicolle Rantanen-Reynolds for their important roles in the ceremony.

"Thank you also to all the LLL staff that have been so welcoming since my appointment.

"I am honoured to become the sixth CEO in the storied 104-year history of LLL and excited for the future as we embark on a new chapter of service to our fellow Christian brothers and sisters in Christ."

The joyful atmosphere and fellowship extended beyond the service when attendees gathered to enjoy a light lunch at Bethlehem House.

Having served on the LLL Board for seven years, Karen was appointed as LLL's first female CEO in November 2025 following the departure of Ross Smith, who returned to live and work in Sydney after nearly five years of service.
